今日は、割と楽なタスクを抱えて客先へ。
単独移動だったので、思う存分、電車の中でDictationをした。

楽だと思ってた作業は、顧客のデータ不整備のせいで、
えらく苦難を強いられたのだけれど、それはまた別の話。
客先作業終了後、2時間かけてちょうど定時に帰社して、
なんかもう、精も魂も尽き果てた感じ。
私の「やる気」って長持ちしない。。。

話を元に戻して。
今日のDictationの素材は、
「Jekyll & Hyde」の「No one must ever know」。
これは、昨日見た歌とは違い、
ソラで歌える率が60%程度と低めなのだ。
案の定、Dictationは苦戦。

内容としては、
自分の中でHydeがどんどん大きく凶暴になって、
殺人までおかしてしまって、
のっぴっきならない事態に追い込まれたJekyllの叫び、かな。
「どうすればいいのか？」と悩みつつ、
「神よご加護を！」となる辺りやはりベースがキリスト教。

メロディもいいし大好きな曲ので、歌詞全文掲載。
赤字部分が私が間違えた箇所なり。

まずは、単語から。
counteract

ヨーコは腫れを何とかしようと、目の周りの黒あざを氷で冷やした。

antidote

この1文、今まで適当に聞き流してたわ。
解毒剤を作るのに必要な試薬か何かの化学物質が手に入らないってこと？
そういう問題でもないと思うんだけど。
ま、少し上で"I remain convinced"って言ってるから、
この段階ではまだ解毒剤的なものを作れると思ってたってことだろう。

"gain"が"can"と聞こえた。"g"と"k"の音が区別できない私。

In the battle of wills that is raging inside, ...
"that is raging inside"か"that he's raising inside"か迷った。
文法的に、ragingの方だろうなと当たりをつけたけど、
音では全くわからなかった。

Somehow I've got rebuild ...
"I've revealed"と聞き間違えた。ううむ・・・

"hope"を拾えていない。2回も。
あと、"work"か"word"か"world"か聞き分けられないという事態も。
やっぱり私の耳って腐ってる。

でも、なんかすっごく楽しかった、この作業。
他の曲もチャレンジしようっと。

■You betcha!

とあるメルマガを読んでいたら、
タイムリーに"You bet!"、"You betcha!"の話が出ていたので引用。

　　　誰かと話していて、「絶対…してやる」と、
　　　強い気持ちを表したくなるときに使える表現をご紹介しましょう。
　　　それは、You bet...という表現です。
　　　betは「賭ける」という意味ですが、会話ではよく
　　　You bet.、You betcha.（＊これはYou bet you.の短縮形です）
　　　などの形にして「もちろん、そのとおり、絶対にそうだ」意味で用いられます。
　　　また、後にthat節を続けて、
　　　「絶対に〜だ、必ず〜するぞ」
　　　という言い方をすることもできるのです。

"You bet!"は、「Brokeback Mountain」に出てきた。
エニスとジャックが離れて4年後、
ジャックから届いた手紙（今度そっちの方に行くから良かったら会おう）に、
エニスがただシンプルに"You bet!"と返すのだ。
意味はわかったものの、
どういう"ノリ"なのかがイマイチつかみきれてなかったんだけど、
ちょっとだけわかった気がする。

"bethcha"の方は、「Jekyll & Hyde」の「Facade」に出てくる。

　　　One or two might look kinda well-to-do
　　　But I betcha precious few have paid for their boots!

前々から、「このベッチャは何物？」と思っていたけど放置してたのよね。
そういう意味でしたか。あぁすっきり。

しかし新たな謎は、"pay for one's boots"ですね。
軽く調べたけどよくわからなかった。

今度英会話のレッスンで聞いてみようかな。
