Stipe records with Molko for Placebo album

Michael Stipe has been a busy boy of late. During the R.E.M. off-season, the songwriter-artist contributed a track with Brian Molko to Placebo's latest album. Broken Promise features on Meds, due out mid-March.

Meanwhile, there is talk Mr Stipe may also be contributing to an upcoming Serge Gainsbourg tribute album. Quoted in a book about the Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Iha said: "Recently I collaborated with Cat Power and Michael Stipe for two tracks on an upcoming Serge Gainsbourg tribute record." We don't yet know whether this is a new or old recording.
