私は３つの講座に出席したが、授業はどれも楽しかった。たとえば、１：４のクラスは、フイリピン人のコリーン先生と、日本人生徒二人、韓国人生徒二人の５人で、ときには冗談を言い合いながら大いに盛り上がった。
この授業では最初に日本人生徒と韓国人生徒がペアを組んで、お互いについて１５項目以上にわたって英語で質問しあい、相手の経歴や人柄についての情報を、できるだけ分かりやすく整理して、他の３人の前で報告した。これでお互いの人間的距離が近づいた。
私がペアを組んだのは韓国人学生のジュリーである。他の３人が同期入学の新入生だったのに対して、ジュリーはもう２ヶ月以上ＣＰＩＬＳに学んでいて、コリーン先生の講座の古株だった。日本人と韓国人、新参者と古株といった組み合わせもよかった。
ジュリーは大学を卒業した後、コンピューター関係の会社に入り、そこを辞めてCPILSに来たという。滞在は３ヶ月の予定で、このあとカナダかオーストリアに行く予定らしい。ちなみに私がジュリーについてクラスで発表した英文を引用しておこう。
I 'd like to intoroduce to you my classmate July.
(1) July was born in Korea in 1975. He may be 31 years old.
(2) He lives in the town near Soul with his family. I failed to get his home town's name.
(3) His family is so big that he himself couldn't tell me his familis number. But I have kouwn that he has two brothers.
(4) he majored in computer science in the univercity.
(5) He worked for FELEX.CO. But he quited it. and came to Cebu to study English.
(6) He is planning to study here for 3 months.
(7) In his stay in Cebu, he already visited the beach 4 times. Cebu beach must be so beautiful, I guess.
(8) After his stay here, he wants to visit Canada or Australia.
(9) He has a Japanese friend in this school. His Japanese friend's name is Nizi.
(10) July learned Japanese history in hight school. So he is familiar with Japan.
(11) He told me about the old Japanese ruｌers such as Nobunaga, Hideyosi and Ieyasu.
(12) He also told me some Japanese words such as Kabuki, Kendo and Susi.
(13) He likes Susi and Kendo. And he also likes movies, basketball and computer.
(14) His favorite color is green. And green is my favorite color too. According to July, green color indicates something like money. In fact I like money, but I can't believe this.
(15) He stays at Diplomat Hotel. And so do I. I hope we will be good friends.
ところで、私は一番大切な情報を落としていた。それはジュリーには韓国に恋人がいて、今年中に結婚するということである。カナダかオーストリアに行くのはそのあとらしい。私と同じ頃にＣＰＩＬＳを後にした彼は、今頃韓国で恋人と再会していることだろう。
