■スリランカ内戦激化（１８）
スリランカ政府とＬＴＴＥ（開放のトラ：反政府組織）との内戦が最終局面に入っているようです。今年に入ってからの政府軍の進攻によって、ＬＴＴＥはジリジリを追い詰められてきました。現在ＬＴＴＥは海に面した１２平方Ｋｍ程度の範囲で抵抗を続けていて、その中にはＬＴＴＥ兵士と数万人のタミール人市民が残っているようです。
ＬＴＴＥは一方的に「停戦」を宣言していたのですが、スリランカ政府はそれを認めていませんでした。政府の求めているのは「停戦」ではなく「降伏」なのです。このような政府軍の対応に対してＬＴＴＥは敗れるくらいならば、全員服毒自殺を図る旨の宣言を行っていました。
最終的にどのような結末を迎えるのか分かりませんが、アメリカ政府やインド政府の説得に応じて、スリランカ政府は今日重火気による砲撃とか空からの攻撃作戦を中止しました。今後は救出活動を展開するとのことです。そうするとプラバーカランを始めとする残されたＬＴＴＥ指導者達がどうなるのか。アメリカ政府がＬＴＴＥに対して第３国に対して「降伏すべし」という声明を発表しています。果たしてスリランカ政府軍はどのような「救出」をおこなうのでしょうか。残念なことにならなければ良いのですが・・・。

Sri Lanka stops combat operations, only rescue missions continued

Apr 27, Colombo: Sri Lankan government today announced that it has concluded all combat operations and would continue the rescue missions.
"Government of Sri Lanka has decided that combat operations have reached their conclusion. Our security forces have been instructed to end the use of heavy caliber guns, combat aircraft and aerial weapons which could cause civilian causalities," the Defence Ministry said in its web site.
"Our security forces will confine their attempts to rescuing civilians who are held hostage and give foremost priority to saving civilians," it further said.
The announcement comes after the Navy foiled another attempt by the Tigers to attack the ground troops from the sea. One Tiger boat was destroyed and four LTTE members were killed in the operation.
