The Fairy げにおそろしき話 |

家人が発見したおそろしくもおもしろきジョーク。
６０代はじめのカップルの結婚記念日の夜、レストランに妖精が現れて願いを叶えてやるというもの。普通願いを叶えるというジョークにはgenie（魔神）が出てくることが多いのですが、今回はそれなりに意味があるようで、それは最後のThe moral（教訓）に生かされています。
The Fairy
A married couple in their early 60s was out celebrating their 35th
wedding anniversary in a quiet, romantic little restaurant.
Suddenly, a tiny yet beautiful fairy appeared on their table and said, "For being such an exemplary married couple and for being faithful to each other for all this time, I will grant you each a wish."
"Oh, I want to travel around the world with my darling husband" said the wife. The fairy waved her magic wand and - poof! - two tickets for the Queen Mary II luxury liner appeared in her hands.
Then it was the husband's turn. He thought for a moment and said:
"Well, this is all very romantic, but an opportunity like this will
never come again. I'm sorry, my love, but my wish is to have a wife 30 years younger than me."
The wife and the fairy were deeply disappointed, but a wish is a wish....so the fairy waved her magic wand and - poof! - the husband became 92 years old.
The moral of the story: Men who are ungrateful should remember
fairies are female.

Youerという形容詞比較級 |

名言が毎日メールされて来るのですが、
さきほど珍しく米国の絵本作家Dr. Seuss（クタースース」と読む）のものが届きました。
次のように文法を破りつつ、子供各自の独自性を礼賛し奨励しています。
youに特別に大文字を与えて”昇格”させ、
それに比較級erを与えて形容詞扱いとし、
no one is better than youなどと言って
他人となど比較するのではない、という檄のような
Youer than Youで結んでいます。
ルールを破ってこそルールがわかる。
言葉遊びだけの方かと思いきや、こういう”手”も持っていたのでちょっと驚きです。
ではその名言（迷言）を。
Today you are You, that is truer than true.
There is no one alive who is Youer than You.
どうでしょう。
He's gooder than I thought.
と、戯れにgooderと言ったけれども、結構、もとも良く、それよりもさらに良い、という”響き”がgooderにはありませんか？
gooder gooder抜かすな？ なるほど。You're gooder than I thought.
