Are you prepared for pregnancy?

You scored 33.3% You're so laid back you're practically horizontal...

Are you in denial? You're so laid back, you don't let pregnancy change your life at all. This is a perfectly reasonable attitude - after all the vast majority all pregnancies result in a healthy baby. But, and it's a big but, antenatal care is designed to pick up the rare exceptions. Your health, or your baby's, might suffer if a condition such as high blood pressure - which has no symptoms in the early stages - goes undetected. Following dietary advice is worthwhile, as bacteria in food can affect the unborn child. The NHS provides a pretty good service; why not take advantage of it? Knowing about the process of birth, and the pain relief available might make things easier for you on the day.

You scored 33.3% So you've noticed you''re pregnant...

Everything is probably going to be fine, but perhaps you do take a few risks. We aren't pregnant for very long in our lives - it's worth paying attention to the current advice, and accepting all the antenatal care that is offered. After all, you have a legal right to take time off work for it. It's unlikely that your pregnancy will be affected by the odd bit of sushi - but you simply never know. Is it worth the momentary pleasure? Remember, you do have a choice. It might be worth looking around a bit and choosing a hospital with a labour ward that has been recently refurbished, or a one-to-one midwife scheme, or even considering a home birth. Don't close your mind to the alternatives.

You scored 16.7% You're taking sensible precautions ...

Most of us fall into this category. You make gradual adjustments to your life as the pregnancy advances. You follow advice from the experts and judge for yourself what is sensible. You read all you can about pregnancy and babies, but without letting yourself get upset about rare complications. You make sure you know where you are going to give birth and take reasonable precautions. If you can, you get to know your midwife. Above all, you enjoy knowing about your developing child, and revel in your special status as a pregnant woman. With an up-to-date knowledge of the pain relief available, and the normal procedures of the labour ward, you are as well prepared as you can be for the birth.

You scored 16.7% Slow down, it's not a competition....

You know who you are. You took a course in practical mechanics when you bought your first car. Pregnancy has got you into a flat spin, and you are simply overdosing on information. Relax, your body knows what it is doing. Try and enjoy being pregnant, without going into too more detail than is needed for reassurance. Don't put your life on hold, and don't spend too much on things you will only wear for a few short months in the second half of pregnancy. You'll need the money more after the baby is born. Sensible, up to date, antenatal care is vital for picking up the odd rare complication. But you need to remind yourself that the vast majority of pregnancies result in healthy babies whatever you do.
