■スリランカ内戦激化（９）
１６日金曜日、スリランカの首都コロンボのビジネス街で爆弾テロ事件がありました。今のところ死者９名、９０人以上の怪我人が出た模様です。場所はコロンボのフォート。嘗て植民地の商館があった場所で今はビジネスの中心地となっている場所です。私が勤めていたスリランカ・テレコムの直ぐ近くです。以下は機能のホームページの報道です。

Suicide attack in Sri Lanka capital kills 9, injures over 90

May 16, Colombo: A suspected LTTE suicide attack in the heart of the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo killed 9 and injured over 95 people today.

Military sources little while ago confirmed that an LTTE cadre on a suicide attempt has driven a motorcycle into a Police bus near Sambuddhaloka Viharaya in Fort at 12.05 p.m., today.

Seven out of the 9 killed were police personnel. Sixty two (62) civilians, 30 Police and 3 Army personnel were among the casualties received at the National Hospital, hospital sources said.

The explosion in front of the Colombo Hilton and in the close vicinity to the Presidential Secretariat and the Ministry of Finance seriously damaged several vehicles traveling in the area at the time.

The blast comes in the eve of the Vesak week, which was declared by the government starting from today. Sri Lanka Defence Ministry starting from yesterday enforced special security measures in the country for the upcoming Vesak festival.
