"The End of the Affair"

サラの日記の部分に入ったら、途端にすっごく読みやすくなった。
そうですか。そういうことですか。って感じ。

なんでだか、ジッドの「狭き門」を思い出した。

サラ曰く、

Sometimes I get so tired of trying to convince him that I love him and shall love him for ever.

だそうで、確かにそういうのはツライし、うざいよな。
"try"をもう少し自分の書くor話す英語でも使えるようになりたい。

Why did this promise stay, like an ugly vase a friend has given and one waits for a maid to break it, and year after year she breaks the things one values and the ugly vase remains?

これはも読む分には全く問題ないけど、似たようなことを言うのも書くのもできないだろうな。
内容は誰しも共感できると思います。
でもまぁ自分に対する約束は他者から押し付けられた花瓶とは違うからね。
"this promise"が何かは、小説を読んでもらうとして。

自分で決めた約束なりルールの強制力ってものには、
私自身驚くことが多いので、この一文が気になったのかもしれない。

それにしても、一体 Maurice のどこが好きなのか、
今度は Sahra の気持ちが理解できません。
まぁ恋愛に理由なんてないのかもしれないけど、
Maurice にはいい所なんて特に見当たらない気がする。

I heard that Kyoko (my cousin) had visited her father (my uncle)
in hospital finally (2 weeks after his operation).
No doubt Kyoko had no mind to go, but my mother's measure made her go.

My mother (Kyoko's aunt) advised her brother (my uncle) to email his
son Shota (Kyoko's younger brother) how much he was looking forward to
seeing his daughter.
Maybe Shota told his sister to visit their father...
I know the relationship between siblings sometimes works well.
