When we sit in a chair all day the spine doesn't have much chance to remain healthy. The joints become accustomed to a small range of motion and gravity takes over, compressing our spines and making us slump. We need to stretch the spine in all directions to keep it limber and strong. The hips and legs also need more of a stretch than they get during the trip to get coffee or lunch. This series of exercises stretches the whole spine, hip joints and legs. When the spine is long and well supported we can breathe deeply and concentrate better. These movements also may prevent the backaches and fatigue associated with inactivity.
