New coach Andrew Olivieri brings five members of Canada's 2010 CONCACAF U-17 champion side to Panama, and returns five more from the 2010 U-20 side that finished third in Guatemala. As many as nine players have seen time in camp with the Canadian senior women's team, including Rutgers University freshman forward Amy Pietrangelo. Pietrangelo was Canada's U-20 Women's player of the year in 2011 and is one of 18 roster players who compete in the U.S. college ranks.

This will be Cuba's third straight CONCACAF U-20 women's finals, having lost all six games in the previous two. However, its performance in 2010, when it lost games by a combined 7-2, was a marked improvement over 2008, when Cuba was outscored 22-1. Coach Jose Luis Elejalde will bring five of his players from the senior team that competed in CONCACAF Olympic women's finals in Vancouver in January to Panama, including midfielder Rachael Paleaz, who led the U-20 women's team with six goals in five games in Caribbean qualifying.
