Coach Roberto Medina, in charge when Mexico finished runner-up to the United States two years ago and led El Tri into the second round of the U-20 Women's World Cup for the first time in 2010, has a wealth of experience on the back line. In addition to Santiago, who was a member of Mexico's U-20 Women's World Cup team in 2010 and its senior World Cup side in 2011,defender Bianca Sierra played in the 2010 U-20 Women's World Cup and Christina Murillo played in the U-17 Women's World Cup in 2010. In all, Medina will have five players who competed in Vancouver in January at the CONCACAF Olympic women's qualifying finals.
