The Soca Warriors make a Caribbean record 12th appearance in the CONCACAF finals in 2009, qualifying by finishing runner-up in the Caribbean championship to Cuba. After edging Bermuda on goal difference to win its first-round group, it needed two extra time goals to get past Jamaica 3-1 in the Caribbean semifinals and qualify. Trinidad has played in the World Cup twice before, including when it was the only Caribbean nation to host in 2001.

Honduras extends its streak of being the only nation to compete in each of CONCACAFfs U-17/U-16 finals, qualifying for a 14th time. It won Group A of the
Central American (UNCAF) qualifying, defeating Belize and host Panama without surrendering a goal. Despite its consistency in qualifying for the CONCACAF finals, it has reached the World cup only once (Korea Republic, 2007).
